Polyonics, a manufacturer of high performance label materials, recently teamed up with a contract manufacturer in the northwestern part of the U.S. to evaluate their polyimide label products in an intense circuit board manufacturing process.
For this application, circuit boards with identification labels were subjected to two reflow cycles at 270°C followed by twelve cleaning cycles in Kyzens Aquanox A4625 solution at 15% and a pressure of 80 PSI (pounds per square inch).
After each cleaning cycle, the boards go through two water washes at 135°F and three drying ovens with high pressure blowers at 200°F. This entire process is then repeated anywhere from 6 to12 times. This rigorous process is required to meet the clean requirements for medical device and aerospace electronics.
According to this contract manufacturer, Polyonics is the first label material supplier to have a product that successfully survives this rigorous process.
The two Polyonics products that performed the best were:
The XF-541 is 2mil, buff colored matte material with an aggressive acrylic adhesive designed for applications where the label will be exposed to harsh chemicals.
The XF-587 is a 2mil white, semi-gloss material with an aggressive acrylic adhesive designed for applications where the label will be subjected to extreme high temperatures.
Polyonics a global leader in high temperature, high performance label and tape products is based in Westmoreland, New Hampshire and has sales offices in Singapore, Shanghai & Shenzhen China.
