Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. (TRH) is a holding company. The Company conducts its operations principally through its three operating subsidiaries: Transatlantic Reinsurance Company (TRC), Trans Re Zurich (TRZ) and Putnam Reinsurance Company (Putnam). The Company offers reinsurance capacity for a range of property and casualty products on both a treaty and facultative basis. These products are offered directly and through brokers, to insurance and reinsurance companies, in both the domestic and international markets. One or both of TRC and Putnam is licensed, accredited, authorized and can serve as a reinsurer in 50 states and the District of Columbia in the United States and in Puerto Rico and Guam. During the year ended December 31, 2008, casualty lines comprised 70% of TRH’s net premiums written, while property lines totaled 30%. In addition, treaty reinsurance totaled 97% of net premiums written, with the balance representing facultative accounts.
