Pau Gasol has signed a three-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, two year before his current contract was to expire, keeping the 7-footer on the West coast through the 2013-14 season.
The three-year-deal with pay Gasol a total of $57 million; $18,714,150 in 2011-12, $19,000,000 in 2012-13 and $19,285,850 in 2013-14.
Under his current deal Gasol is making $16,452,000 this year and is to be paid $17,823,000 next season.
Since coming over from the Memphis Grizzlies in a trade in 2008 Gasol has led the Lakers to two NBA Finals and the team has compiled a 101-23 regular-season record in games he has played. The Lakers captured the NBA title last year due in large part to Gasol who averaged 18.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
Since missing the first 11 games of the season Gasol has led the Lakers on a 15-1 stretch and the club has the NBA’ best record at 23-4.
