Steve Nash scored 26 points and handed out 14 assists, Amare Stoudemire added 15 points and 16 rebounds and Shawn Marion finished with 16 points and 11 assists as the Phoenix Suns (60-19) dropped the Los Angeles Lakers (40-40) 93-85 for their 60th win of the season.
Los Angeles stayed close with the Suns throughout the first half and by the break the Lakers trailed by just one. By the middle of the third quarter that one point Phoenix advantage had turned into a 72-56 lead after a 13-0 run that took the wind out of the Lakers squad.
Luke Walton pulled the Lakers to within three with 3:41 left in the fourth quarter but the Suns countered with a jumper from Nash and another from Stoudemire to bump their lead back to seven with 2:47 on the clock. Nash then sealed the game for Phoenix with four free-throws over the final 18 seconds to give the Suns their fourth straight win.
The loss was the fourth in a row for Los Angeles who are now in a dogfight to remain in the Western Conference playoff picture. The Lakers are currently the seventh seed but are just ½ a game ahead of the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors.
Kobe Bryant had a rough night, shooting just 7-26 from the field for 17 points. The Lakers star attempted only two foul-shots in the entire game.
