With no candidate securing more than 50% of the votes needed to secure a victory the presidential election in Croatia is heading to a run-off which is expected to be held on January 10.
Opposition Social Democrat leader Ivo Josipovic received more votes than independent Milan Bandic in the initial vote but not enough to avoid a second round of voting.
Josipovic has won favor among the people of Croatia for his stance against corruption, an issue that has been a main concern among voters. He was said to have taken 32.7% of the vote in the first round while Bandic followed with 14.1%.
After serving two five-year terms President Stipe Mesic is stepping down in February.
