Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer shocked the college football world on Saturday after announcing he would step down from his position following the school’s Sugar Bowl appearance but new reports have suggested he has had second thoughts and is now calling the decision an “indefinite leave o absence.”
Meyer cited health reasons for Saturday’s stunning news, having been admitted to a hospital several times since the Gators appearance in the SEC championship game against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Meyer released a statement on Saturday that read, “I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program, I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family.”
The Gators will turn to offensive coordinator Steve Adazzio as Meyer’s fill-in and it is believed he will keep that position until Myer is ready to return.
