NFL Scores: Carolina Panthers Embarrass New York Giants, Deliver Blow to Playoff Hopes

Matt Moore was 15/20 passing for 171 yards and three touchdowns, Jonathan Stewart collected 206 yards rushing and a TD and the Carolina Panthers (7-8) defense forced four turnovers in a 41-9 blasting of the New York Giants (8-7) on Sunday.

John Kasay provided the only points in the opening frame, kicking a 38-yard field goal to give Carolina a 3-0 lead. The Panthers then blew it open in the second as Stewart scored on a 29-yard run and five minutes later Muhsin Muhammad hauled in a 22-yard TD toss from Moore to make it 17-0. That was then extended to 24-0 when Moore found Jeff King on a 2-yard pass and that lead would carry into the half.

Carolina showed no signs of slowing down in the third quarter as Moore hit Steve Smith on a 27-yard touchdown pass and the Giants were stunned. NY finally managed to get on the board with a Lawrence Tynes field goal but the Panthers countered with a Kasay boot and heading into the fourth the score was 34-3.

Eli Manning, who was picked twice and fumbled once, tossed his only touchdown of the game early in the fourth when he found Steve Smith on a 2-yard pass but the Panthers responded with a TD of their own as Brad Hoover scored on a one-yard run to wrap up the scoring.
