Vince Carter scored 35 points, Jason Kidd finished with 12 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds and Bostjan Nachbar came of the bench to score 25 points as the New Jersey Nets (39-41) beat the Indiana Pacers (35-45) 111-107, ending the Pacers hopes of making the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The score was tied at 80-80 after the third quarter and Troy Murphy put the Pacers in front by two to start the fourth but a quick 8-0 run by New Jersey gave the Nets a six point lead and they never trailed the rest of the way.
Each time the Pacers got close it seemed the Nets had an answer. Indiana tied the score at 92-92 when Darrell Armstrong hit a three-pointer but Nachbar answered with a triple of his own and the Nets were back up by three.Danny Granger pulled the Pacers to within one with 4:20 left on the clock but Vince Carter hit a three-pointer to start an 8-0 run and seal the game.
Because the Orlando Magic beat the Boston Celtics on Sunday Indiana will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-1997 season.
