“Disturbia” Takes Top Spot from “Blades of Glory” at Box-Office

Dream Works Pictures capitalized on the rising popularity of Shia LaBeouf to grab the top spot at the weekend box-office. As the main character in “Disturbia,” LaBeouf helped pull in $23 million for the new release to knock off Hollywood heavyweight Will Ferrell and “Blades of Glory.”

LaBeouf has seen his stock in movies take off recently and with the highly anticipated movie “Transformers” hitting this summer and then “Indiana Jones” set for release in 2008 the 20-year-old can expect plenty of coverage.

“Disturbia,” based on a story surrounding a teenager who believes his neighbor is a serial killer, has already recouped its $20 million in production costs.

It wasn’t all bad news for “Blades of Glory” as Ferrell and Jon Heder pulled in $14.1 million in their third week to inch closer to the $100 million mark.

Another strong performance from “Meet the Robinsons” landed the Disney flick in third place. The animated family movie brought in $12.1 million.

Recent recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Halle Berry hit the big screen with her new film “Perfect Stranger.” Despite early predictions that the movie would challenge for the top spot it finished a disappointing fourth with $11.5 million in ticket sales.

The weekend also brought in the year’s first $200 million movie as “300” eclipsed the mark after $4.3 million in sales pushed it over the mark.
