French Company Areva to Build Nuclear Plant in California

French nuclear engineering company Areva SA announced today its plans to develop one or two new-generation reactors in California’s Central Valley in a partnership with Fresno Nuclear Energy Group (FNEG).

Areva said FNEG is a group of investors that want to acquire the European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) technology for California. EPR reactors are under construction in France, Finland and China with the certification process underway in the US and Britain.
