The Canadian outfielder, Jason Bay of the Boston Red Sox, is being traded to the New York Mets after the two parties reached an agreement on a four-year contract. The deal is reportedly for somewhere in the ball park of $66 million USD.
The Mets have had several difficult seasons, but the addition of Bay, who hit a .267 for the Boston Red Sox this past season may help change that. Although the Red Sox did not make the Series this year, Bay excelled, getting the best numbers of his career scoring 103 runs, nabbing 13 stolen bases, 36 home runs and 119 runs batted in.
Bay took home the Silver Slugger offensive award for American League left-fielders, in addition to being a third time winner of the Canadian Tip O'Neill Award given to the best baseball player from the nation by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
Bay has been traded quite a bit in recent years first from Pittsburgh to Boston in mid-2008. Surely the Mets hope he will stick around longer and help bolster their ailing game in the last couple of seasons. How this will affect the teams overall game, popularity and ticket sales will remain to be seen
