Well it finally happened. Heather Mills took a spill while ending her samba on Monday night’s episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and it appears as if it may have actually helped her. Oh the courage displayed by Mills, how can one woman be so brave, the usual routine from the judges who have taken to patronizing the estranged wife of Paul McCartney rather than treat her like she was any other contestant.
That’s not to say that Mills was awful, or that she didn’t deserve the three sevens she earned on the judges cards but there has to be a point where gushing over performances stops. Mills’ intention when coming on the show was to prove that those individuals living with disabilities can still be active and participate in any chosen endeavor. Her intentions were not to give those living with disabilities the impression that whatever you do will be seen as a miracle by others.
But hey it’s a show so whatever, with a total score of 21 Mills finished fifth on the night and will have no problem surviving the elimination.
Along with the Mills spill came the Apolo Anton Ohno thrill as the Olympic gold-medalist scored the competitions first perfect round with a 30. After completing their samba Apolo and Julianne Hough receive a standing ovation from the audience.
On the other end of the dancing spectrum, Clyde Drexler is doing for ‘Dancing with the Stars’ what Sanjaya Malakar is doing for ‘American Idol.’ That’s to say, not much. With partner Elena Grinenko looking like she’s praying to end the rhumba without getting hurt, the dancing odd couple total a 13 with a pair of fours and a five. If Drexler doesn’t go this week blame a call center in India.
After a few slow weeks for Laila Ali had the judges wondering what happened to their early favorite, the boxing great let loose with a near perfect rhumba. Ali is back in the good graces of the judges and scored a 28 with a pair of nines and a 10.
Ian Ziering continues to fly under most people’s radar yet the former 90210’er continues to rack up solid scores and he has remained consistent throughout the competition. Despite the judges constant assurance that he is at the top Ziering continues to play down his abilities which could cost him in the end. Ian and Cherly Burke scored a 24 after picking up eights on each scorecard.
Just ahead of Ziering on the judges cards was Joey Fatone who managed to garner a 25 for his rhumba. Fatone was called too feminine by the judges, how did they miss that the first four weeks?
John Ratzenberger seems like he’s just in it to have fun at this point and his flight home could come at any time and he wouldn’t shed a tear. He scored an 18 after admitting to making up steps during the samba.
After Billy Ray Cyrus and Karina Smirnoff scored a 17 fro their rhumba the country singer seemed convinced it was his last dance. Cyrus has had problems with dances that involve a projection of romance and last night was no different.
If the vote was up to the judges it would probably be Drexler going home but the former NBA star has survived some awful weeks already and if he makes it through again the battle to stay will likely come down to John and Billy Ray.
