For Carrie Underwood the remarkable ride from ‘American Idol’ winner to full blown singing sensation was further solidified after Monday night’s 2007 CMT Awards where she picked up another two statues.
The 24-year-old star won Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year awards for “Before He Cheats.” Last year Underwood grabbed the Female Video of the Year Award for “Jesus Take the Wheel,” a video that also won Breakthrough Video of the Year honors.
Kenny Chesney took the CMT Award for Best Male Video for “You Save Me” and like Underwood it was a repeat performance for Chesney. Last year the singer took Male Video of the Year for “Who You’d Be Today.”
Group Video of the Year honors went to Rascal Flatts for their hit single “What Hurts the Most” while Duo Video of the Year went to Sugarland for “Want To.”
The Breakthrough Video of the Year went to 17-year-old Taylor Swift for her debut single titled “Tim McGraw.”
A new award recognizing an artist that typically wouldn’t enjoy the same type of exposure as mainstream stars was bestowed on Monday as well. The inaugural Wide Open Country Video went to Jack Ingram’s “Love You.”
Kris Kristofferson received the Johnny Cash Visionary Award which recognizes groundbreaking initiatives in the music arena.
