Christmas Eve and Christmas were an exciting day for Facebook when they became the most visited website in the United States for the first time ever. Until now facebook has been unable to beat out google for most trafficked website and many are attributing the new development to the use of facebook as something of a Christmas card.
More and more paper greeting cards are becoming obsolete and facebook is taking over as the primary way to wish friends and even family a happy holidays or happy birthday. E-cards and wall posts have already achieved dominance over the archaic snail mail, but the social networking site is still working toward achieving its dominance over one more competitor.
Competing with google will continue to be a challenge. Facebook considers he y considers the search engine its only true rival more than networking sites of its own kind at this point. They want to be the first website a person visits, even before they begin searching. This goal; however is lofty as Google is offers multi-faceted service and has 30,000 employees as compared to facebook's 1,000.
