Somali Man Suspected of Attempting to Carry Explosives onto Plane

A Somali man was detained in November and remains held in Mogadishu after officials said he attempted to board a plane with bound for Dubai with explosives.

According to officials the man had chemicals, liquid and a syringe, similar to the contents found on the Nigerian man who attempted to blow up a Northwest Airlines plane bound for Detroit on Christmas Day.

Somali officials said the man attempted to board a Daallo Airlines flight to the northern city of Hargeisa which was then to continue to Djibouti and then on to Dubai. It is not known if the man has ties to al-Qaeda or any other terrorist organization.

Authorities in the United States are now looking into a possible links between the Somali bomber and the Nigerian man arrested in Detroit.
