Spending was way up during the week that ended on the 26th. Sales rose nearly nine percent during the week according to the research firm Shoppertrak.
December 26th was an especially fruitful day of many retailers with consumer spending hitting $7.9 billion, up from $7.8 billion last year on that day.
The inflated numbers are thought to be due in part to the building demand that resulted when shoppers were unable to hit stores after the series of snowstorms.
In a positive report, its thought that holiday sales rose 1.6 percent in 2009.
