The bad blood between Texas Tech and head coach Mike Leach reached a new level on Wednesday after the school informed the head coach he was being fired.
Leach was suspended by the school two days ago as they investigated claims by an athlete that Leach failed to provide proper treatment following a concussion. Leach attempted to block that suspension and was scheduled to appear in a Lubbock courtroom to block the suspension which would have allowed him to coach the team in Saturday’s Alamo Bowl game against Michigan State.
According to reports Leach was informed that he had been fired just moments before the hearing was to begin and Leach’s attorney, Ted Liggett, then told the judge the hearing was no longer necessary. Liggett then made it known that he would be filing a lawsuit against the school on Leach’s behalf.
Just last year Leach was named Big 12 coach of the year, leading the Red Raiders to an 11-2 mark. Early this year he became the winningest coach in school history and has 84 wins during his ten year tenure.
