Synthetic Alcohol Could Prolong Treatment
Scientists in England are developing a new, synthetic type of alcohol that will allow a person to get drunk, but not get hung over. While people are suffering from cancer, AIDS, and other terrifying deadly diseases, scientists are focusing on the best way to get a good buzz. But what most don’t understand is that alcoholism is a behavior employed by the individual to make life easier and that there are underlying issues associated with addiction. Instead of focusing our energy on creating a better drunk, people need to focus on a drug rehab program that works for those who are addicted to alcohol. The synthetic alcohol is designed to allow a person to be “pleasantly drunk” without the ramifications of a hang over. In addition to promoting drinking without the fear of a hang over, this synthetic alcohol is accompanied by a pill that once ingested the person no longer feels drunk. Promoting this type of consumption will only lead users down a dangerous path, where being drunk no longer has any obvious consequences. While this synthetic alcohol seems harmless it is does not address one major problem – alcoholism. A person that is addicted to alcohol is consumed with the idea of drinking and drinks excessive amounts. Most times the only reprieve alcoholics experience is when the negative consequences of drinking force them to stop for a period of time. This can include but is not limited to: health problems, legal problems, and familial problems. The biggest threat that synthetic alcohol places is that it eliminates all negative consequences of drinking to excess, and in fact promotes it, which could make the runway for treatment longer and the addict will end up doing more harm to himself and others along the way. Narconon Louisiana is a long-term, inpatient facility located just outside of Baton Rouge. This secluded retreat allows clients to handle their addiction in a calm, peaceful atmosphere. In a field where the average success rate is between 12-20%, Narconon Louisiana far surpasses that with a 76% success rate for permanent recovery. Narconon Louisiana does not subscribe to the idea that addiction is a disease. Instead counselors work one on one with a client locating and isolating what problems drugs and alcohol was a solution to. Once this problem is isolated and handled, clients are then able to live their life without the crippling effects of their past. In addition to handling the underlying problems that cause addiction, clients conquer one of the biggest causes of relapse – cravings. Cravings, and their iron-clad grip on addicts, prevent the individual from ever really moving on from the substance. Upon entering into the program, clients are enrolled in The New Life Detoxification program. This is a method developed by author and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard which allows the body to get rid of drug and alcohol residues through a safe and effective process that has been used as a life-saving part of Narconon drug treatment. Unfortunately making alcohol more accessible to those addicted and without consequences will harm them and others in the long run. Alcoholism does not have to go unhandled, or covered up.
