Suicide Bomber Targets Sporting Event in Pakistan, at least 45 Dead

A suicide bomber detonated an explosive at a volleyball match near Lakki Marwat in northwest Pakistan, killing at least 45 people and injuring several more.

According to reports hundreds of people had gathered to watch the volleyball match when the bomber drove his truck into the crowd and blew it up. While the death toll has been placed at 45 people authorities believe that number could climb as high as 70.

The area, close to North and South Waziristan, has been a battleground between Taliban militants and the Pakistani army. Locals have joined the campaign against the Taliban and Friday’s attack is believed to be an act of retaliation for their stance.
