Toronto Blue Jays Infielder Edwin Encarnacion Treated for Facial Injuries Following Fireworks Mishap

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Edwin Encarnacion has been treated for minor facial injuries following a fireworks mishap in the Dominican Republic.

Encarnacion, 26, was celebrating the New Year’s with his family in La Roma when he was struck in the face by a bottle rocket. The firecracker exploded near his mouth, causing first and second-degree burns on his forehead and right side of his face.

After being treated at a local hospital Encarnacion was flown to Miami on Friday evening for further treatment. He was released on Saturday and is not expected to suffer from any lasting injuries.
