Rafael Nadal Drops Robin Soderling to Win Capitala World Tennis Championship

Rafael Nadal got his New Year off to a strong start, knocking off Robin Soderling in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 to win the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Soderling had a shot at taking the first set, twice having set-point but Nadal forced him into a tie-breaker and ran past the Swede with little trouble.

In the second set it was Soderling who battled back after falling down a break, eventually saving three match points only to have Nadal find an opening and take the title.

Roger Federer, who lost to Soderling in the semifinals, beat David Ferrer in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 to finish third in the tournament.
