After a man had been seen walking the wrong way down an exit lane for arriving passengers, which is near a screening checkpoint, security officials shut down flights at Terminal C, which is mostly used by Continental Airlines. In other words, the man walked from the public area into the secured area where the gates are without being screened.
The disruption at Newark was felt worldwide: the Associated Press reported that at Oslo’s Gardermoen airport, a Continental flight to Newark that was scheduled to leave at 11 a.m.
