The Chicago Bears will reportedly keep head coach Lovie Smith around for at least one more season despite the team’s disappointing finish to their 2009 campaign.
Chicago ended the year at 7-9 and missed eth playoffs for the third straight season. The disappointment of 2009 was made greater in large part to the team’s hopes heading into the season. Those hopes were centered on the arrival of quarterback Jay Cutler but his 26 interceptions were the most in the NFL and many of those picks took the Bears out of a game.
Despite the disappointment Bears officials appear convinced that Smith can turn the team around and get them back into the Super Bowl, something they did in 2006. While Smith is expected to be back there have also been reports that he will be forced to make changes to his staff, most notably on the offensive side of the ball.
