The Nexus One is the first smart phone designed by the company’s engineers. The phone will have Google’s new Android operating system, which has already been featured in other smart phones.

According to reports, Google will sell the Nexus One directly to consumers over the Web, leaving it up to the buyers to pick their own carriers.

T-Mobile has agreed to provide a subsidy for a Nexus One that works on its wireless network. It is expected that Google will ask AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S) to also provide a subsidy for the phone.
