Discovery (NASDAQ: DISCA), Imax (NASDAQ: IMAX) and Sony (NYSE: SNY) announced Tuesday that the companies have formed a joint venture to launch a 3-D television network, according to New York Times.
The announcement coincided with the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.

Discovery Communications, which operates the Discovery Channel, TLC and other cable channels, will distribute the channel, which is expected to begin in 2011.
The three companies will own equal stakes in the 24-hour channel, according to the report.
In addition, ESPN, the sports network owned by Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS), announced Tuesday that they will also have a 3-D channel. However, instead of 24-hours, “ESPN 3D” will air live events using 3-D technology.
