Walgreens Surprises Investors With Report of December Sales Drop

Finance World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

In the first drop since February 2009, Walgreen’s Co. same-store sales fell 0.3% in December. The company attributed the drop to the waning incidence of flu cases slowing pharmacy-sales growth and the company’s strategy of reining in holiday-related inventory.

December same-store sales in the pharmacy department rose 1.8%, cut by 2.1 percentage points because of new generic drugs the past year. Prescriptions filled climbed 4.1% on a same-store basis.s
