NBA Scores: Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony Surprise Spurs, Lead Nuggets to Game One Win

Allen Iverson scored 31 points and dished out five assists while Carmelo Anthony added 30 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets went on the road and took game one from the San Antonio Spurs 95-89.

The Nuggets jumped to a 15-6 lead in the first quarter and Anthony scored 10 in the opening frame to give Denver a 21-16 advantage after one. In the second quarter the Spurs were able to overcome an eight point deficit with a 12-0 run and went up 36-32 with 2:33 left in the half. Iverson then scored eight of his ten second quarter points in the final 2:18 to give the Nuggets a 44-42 lead at the break.

Iverson scored another eleven in the third quarter as both teams went back and forth before the period ended with the Nuggets in front 67-66.

Denver boosted their lead to four in the fourth when Steve Blake buried a three-pointer but the Spurs went on a 7-0 run to take a three point advantage with just under eight minutes remaining. The Nuggets then responded with a 15-2 run that moved then up by ten with 3:27 left in the game, a deficit the Spurs couldn’t overcome.

Tim Duncan finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists while Tony Parker added 19 points and 8 assists in the loss.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday for game two in their best of seven series.
