Andre Dawson will be the only member of baseball’s Hall of Fame class of 2010 after receiving 420 of 539 votes in his ninth appearance on the ballot.
Dawson received 15 more votes than the 75 percent necessary from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. The same could not be said for Bert Blyleven who finished just five votes short of getting his Hall of Fame call. Despite winning 287 games and collecting 3,701 strikeouts over a 23-year career Blyleven has found votes hard to come by but is still expected to meet the 75 percent within his next two years of eligibility.
As for Dawson, voters finally recognized one of the most dominant power hitters of the 1980s. Dawson is one of only six players to finish his career with more than 300 homeruns and 300 stolen based and in addition to his offensive numbers he collected eight Gold Gloves.
Roberto Alomar finished just short of reaching the Hall of Fame in his first appearance on the ballot, totaling 397 votes.
