GM Creates Electric Battery

Financial World News Update by Equities Magazine

The soon to be released electric car, the Chevrolet Volt is one step closer to completion according to a General Motors announcement stating that the automaker has created its first mass produced electric car battery. The battery pack is comprised of more than 200 battery cells all connected to each other.

The lithium-ion battery will begin regular production starting in the fourth quarter in preparation for the November ‘10 selling date.

Interim CEO and GM Chairman said a few of the cars might even sell before their November showroom debut and announced intentions to test the new technology by distributing about 100 Volts to utility companies for review.

Whitacre, who has been in charge of reviving the ailing automaker also said the company is rushing to spread the volt technology to other, established GM models like the Cadillac. Perhaps the companies new progressive, eco-concious approach will bolster sales and help GM come back for the first time since the bailout.

As the technology stands, the Volt is designed to run for up to 40 miles on a single battery charge before a gas-powered engine generates electricity to propel the car. Charging the battery is simple as charging a cell phone, just plug the volt into the nearest electrical outlet.
