‘Dancing with the Stars’ is near the end of its weeding out process and after Monday night’s performances it appears clear that John Ratzenberger will be joining the list of former contestants whereas Laila Ali and Apolo Anton Ohno continue to rise above the rest.
Ali impressed the judges with a Cha-Cha that earned her 28 out of 30 votes. Judge Bruno Tonioli has gone as far as calling Ali a “magnificent obsession” and Len Goodman called her dance “pure gold.” It seems the competition is Ali’s to lose but if she slips don’t be surprised to see Ohno step up.
Ohno has continued to prove he is just as adept on the dance floor as he is on the ice. Partnering with Julianne Hough, Ohno danced the Rumba and received high praise for his moves, Tonioli called the performance “a choreographed poem.” With a score of 28, Ohno joined Ali atop the judge’s scorecards.
Joey Fatone dropped the feminine mystique and got some help from Jerry Springer to man up his dancing. Apparently the tutorial helped because Fatone and Kym Johnson earned a 27 in what judge Carrie Ann Inaba called “one of your best performances so far.”
Ian Ziering wasn’t as fortunate as Fatone when it came time to hear the judges’ comments. All three seemed a little let down by the former 90210’ers Paso Doble and handed him a 24 out of 30. If you think that’s bad, Inaba even told Ziering to watch Billy Ray Cyrus for help.
The Heather Mills experience may be coming to an end soon as the judges seem to have given up on trying to find new superlatives to describe her courage. The compliments have failed to match their scorecards and this week was no different as she picked up a 23.
The bottom two scores belonged to Billy Ray Cyrus and John Ratzenberger who scored 21 ands 19 respectively. Cyrus was credited for making up his own moves while Ratzenberger had to hear that his dance was “awful” from Len Goodman.
While John Ratzenberger has survived bad weeks before this could be the end for America’s favorite mailman. It just doesn’t seem likely that Mills is sent packing and Billy Ray has proved to have a strong backing. If you’re looking for a surprise watch for Ian Ziering to be sent home.
