‘American Idol’ Shares Success with Charities

Dubbed “Idol Gives Back,” the hit realty show ‘American Idol’ will be focusing on raising money and awareness for charitable organizations that support children’s organizations in the United States as well as health issues in Africa on Tuseday and Wednesday.

The six remaining contestants will be performing “life anthems” on Tuesday and for every vote cast by fans a corporate donation will be made to the charities. During the two hour show on Wednesday viewers will have the opportunity to call in contributions through a pledge-line displayed during the show.  

Wednesday night’s show will feature two stages with Ellen DeGeneres hosting from the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A. while Ryan Seacrest remains on the American Idol stage for his regular routine.

DeGeneres will have the opportunity to welcome several big names to the stage for performances. Among the list of stars expected to take the stage are Bono, Gwen Stafani, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Hugh Grant, Earth, Wind & Fire, Il Divo, Keira Knightley, Josh Groban, Jack Black, Helen Mirren, Quincy Jones, Rascal Flatts, and Annie Lennox.
