Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT) climbed up 1.07% to $14.16 on a massive volume of 12.75 million shares after Needham & Co. upgraded the stock to a buy rating Friday, citing a "strong cycle recovery" while cautioning that sales growth could eventually slow in the second half of the year. The stock has a 52-week range of $8.19-$14.57. Applied Materials, Inc. (Applied) provides Nanomanufacturing Technology solutions for the global semiconductor, flat panel display, solar and related industries, with a portfolio of equipment, service and software products. The Company’s customers include manufacturers of semiconductor wafers and chips, flat panel liquid crystal displays, solar photovoltaic cells and modules (solar PVs), and other electronic devices. It operates in four segments: Silicon, Applied Global Services, Display, and Energy and Environmental Solutions.

 

Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) rallied 1.48% to $11.00 on a massive volume of 12.33 million shares. The stock has a 52-week range of $2.55-$11.34. Micron Technology, Inc. is a global manufacturer and marketer of semiconductor devices, principally dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and Nandi Flash memory (NAND). In addition, the Company manufactures complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor products under a wafer foundry arrangement. The Company operates in two segments, Memory and Imaging.

 

QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) surged 1.00% to $49.47 with a massive volume of 9.49 million shares. The stock today also touched a new 52 week high at $49.73. The company announced that it is working closely with foundry partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, on 28 nanometer (nm) process technology. The advanced process node enables more features to be integrated into smaller chips with a high level of cost efficiency, accelerating the expansion of wireless into new market segments. Qualcomm and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company worked closely on 65nm and 45nm technologies. They are continuing their relationship into low-power, low-leakage 28nm designs for high-volume manufacturing. Delivering up to twice the density of previous manufacturing nodes, 28nm technology allows semiconductors that power mobile devices to do far more with less power.
