NFL Playoffs Scores: New York Jets Drop Cincinnati Bengals to Move into Second Round

Shonn Greene rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, Mark Sanchez was 13/15 passing for 182 yards and a TD and Dustin Keller had three receptions for 99 yards and a score as the New York Jets went on the road and knocked off the Cincinnati Bengals 24-14 in the opening round of the AFC playoffs on Saturday.

Cincinnati jumped to a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter when Carson Palmer found Laveranues Coles on an 11-yard touchdown pass but from that point on the Bengals would find scoring hard to come by. NY managed to even the score at 7-7 early in the second quarter when Shonn Greene hit the corner and went 39-yards for a TD and the Jets grabbed the lead five minutes later when Mark Sanchez hit Dustin Keller on a 45-yard touchdown pass to take a 14-7 lead into the half.

Defense dominated much of the third quarter but the Jets gained some breathing room at the two minute mark when Thomas Jones scored on a 9-yard run to move in front 21-7. Cincinnati cut their deficit to 21-14 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter when Cedric Benson found a hole and went 47-yards for a TD but Jay Feely gave the Jets a 24-14 cushion when he kicked a 20-yard field goal with just under six minutes left in the game. From that point on the New York defense shut down the Bengals hopes of a comeback and sent the Jets into the second round of the Playoffs.

Cincinnati’s only offense came from Benson who accounted for 181 yards of the 281 yards gained by the Bengals. Benson rushed for 169 yards on 21 carries and had three receptions on the day.
