Angolan authorities have arrested two men believed to be tied to the deadly attack on Togo’s football team.
Three people died on Friday when gunmen opened fire on Togo’s team bus as it arrived in the Angolan province of Cabinda ahead of their opening match in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The driver of the bus, a press officer and an assistant coach died in the ambush while several players were injured.
The attack shocked much of the world and Togo’s football team opted to leave the tournament and return home rather than play in their opening match against Ghana on Monday.
A rebel group, Front for the Liberation of the State of Cabinda, claimed responsibility for the attack and two of its members were arrested by authorities.
