General Motors Co. is considering the possibility of reopening some factories due to increased demand of certain vehicles it announced Monday.
Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain, Buick Lacrosse, Cadillac SRX, crossover vehicles and the Buick LaCrosse sedan are no longer satisfying production demand according to Mark Reuss, the automaker’s North American President.
Ruess went on to add that GM would like to begin hiring employees once trust in the brand is restored. For the time being though, job production is not yet an option leaving the company to try to increase output from preexisting plants. Ruess mentioned a plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., but didn’t confirm exact plans.
Plans to amp production at a factory in Ingersoll, Ontario, where the Terrain and Equinox are made as well as one in Kansas City, Kan., where the LaCrosse is made are in effect.
In addition to the production increases made on older models, GM is putting the finishing touches on their Chevrolet Cruze, a compact car that GM hopes will help them re-enter the small cars market.
