The men’s AP Top 25 college basketball rankings finally had a serious shakeup after a week of upsets placed the Texas Longhorns in the #1 spot while the Kentucky Wildcats inched up a spot to #2 in the Week 9 poll.
With wins over Arkansas and Colorado the Longhorns overtook the Kansas Jayhawks who saw their perfect season end on Sunday when they fell to Tennessee. Texas remains just one of two unbeatens but could face some challenges this week as they take on Iowa State and Texas A&M.
Kentucky is the second remaining unbeaten and while the Wildcats had a scare against Georgia on Saturday they stayed perfect to move up one spot to #2 this week. They’ll travel to take on Florida on Tuesday before returning home for a game against Auburn.
The Jayhawks slipped two spots to #3 this week after a shocking loss to an undermanned Tennessee squad.
Villanova jumped four spots this week to #4 with wins over DePaul and Marquette but their Big East schedule get a lot harder this week as they face Louisville and Georgetown. Also representing the Big East, Syracuse is coming off dominant wins over Memphis and South Florida to remain at #5 but they have West Virginia on the horizon in a big conference game.
