Financial World News Update by Equities Magazine

Industrial stocks surged this morning on the expectation that global manufacturing is on the up and up prior of an earnings report from Alcoa Inc. The results in after hours trading exceeded the forecast.

 

The Alcoa numbers were released following reports regarding an 18 percent jump in China’s exports during December.

 

The Dow rose 45.80, or 0.4 percent, to 10,663.99. The S&P 500 index advanced Mondays it has done consistently every day in the new year. It gained 2.00, or 0.2 percent, to 1,146.98. The Nasdaq fell 4.76, or 0.2 percent, to 2,312.41.
