Port in Morehead City, North Carolina Shut Down after Containers Carrying Explosive Material Punctured

A major port in Morehead City, North Carolina has been closed after officials said a number of containers carrying explosive material were punctured.

 

Police in the area have encouraged people to evacuate the area after an undisclosed number of containers carrying pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) were punctured. Officials have said they believe the incident to have been an accident and it is believed the nine containers were punctured by a forklift.

 

The Morehead port is said to be one of the deepest on the East coast and is a major entry point for commodities including sulfur products, considered its top import.
