To bring about the economic revitalization of Downtown Clearwater has been the Clearwater Downtown Partnership’s mission since they formed just 5 years ago, but that has not seemed to deter them in a down economy. The lever to making that happen has been a successful line of events they’ve spearheaded called 4th Friday Clearwater. 2009 was the pilot year, but with 1500-plus people average in attendance at each event, they decided to go forward with the events in 2010 and years to come.
The signature event of 4th Friday started with Miracle on Cleveland Street in December 2008. 2500-plus people attended that inaugural event. December 2009’s Miracle event doubled that, leaving the CDP very happy with the results. Moreover, 3 new restaurants have opened in the downtown core since the events began.
January 2010 starts off another year with live entertainment by Kenny McGee and the GPA of Tampa Bay as January’s benefiting charity.
Kenny McGee remains one of the most sought out singer/songwriters to work with to this day. In the early 90s, he had the number 1 most requested song on 98 Rock for 6 months, titled “Baby Jane.” The Kenny McGee band is well known in the Tampa area as well as nationally.
The benefiting charity, GPA of Tampa Bay, has the mission to find homes for retired racing Greyhounds. They cover Pinellas & Hillsborough, the greater Tampa Bay area, Sarasota, Northern Manatee and Hernando Counties. Proceeds from the beer and wine sales at 4th Friday Clearwater will go to GPA of Tampa Bay.
