Thousands Feared Dead after Earthquake Devastates Haiti

Thousands are now feared dead after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Haiti shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

Officials are calling the quake the largest to strike Haiti in more than 200 years, devastating the impoverished nation as buildings and homes collapsed. The death toll from the tremor could stretch into the tens of thousands as rescue crews continue to dig through rubble to find victims trapped under the debris.

 

According to reports the quake struck about 10 mile southwest of the capital Port-au-Prince and was followed by a pair of strong aftershocks that toppled several buildings that survived the initial strike.
