Over 100 UN Personnel Trapped in Collapsed Headquarters in Haiti

World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

Roughly 100 to 150 UN personnel were trapped under the rubble of the UN mission in Port au Prince Haiti, which collapsed in the massive earthquake that shook the country yesterday. The earthquake was the most powerful ever recorded in the country.

The UN staff were still working at the headquarters of the UN Stabilization Mission when the earthquake struck.

“Many people are still trapped inside,” said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

So far, less than five people have been confirmed dead, said Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Alain Le Roy.
