Jason Kidd scored 16 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out 19 assists while Vince Carter finished with 37 points and the New Jersey Nets had little trouble beating the Toronto Raptors 102-89 to take a 2-1 series lead in their Eastern Conference playoff series.
New Jersey opened the first quarter scoring the first nine points and never trailed throughout the game. Carter scored 13 points in the first quarter to put the Nets up 31-19 after one and the second quarter was no easier for the Raptors. New Jersey used a 10-1 run to push their lead to 21 before settling for a 58-39 lead at the half.
The Raptors opened the third with a 12-3 run to cut their deficit to nine but New Jersey hit three consecutive three-pointers to keep Toronto from getting back into the game.
Andrea Bargnani pulled Toronto to within eight early in the fourth but a 7-0 spurt by the Nets boosted their lead back to 15 and the Raptors had no answer.
T.J. Ford led the Raptors with 27 points in the loss while Chris Bosh struggled from the floor, scoring 11 points on 3-10 shooting.
The teams will meet again on Sunday in New Jersey for game four of their best of seven series.
