One in Three American Adults Obese, Rate of Increase Slowing

World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

According to new U.S. government figures released today, one-third of American adults are obese, but the rate of increase seen in recent decades has slowed.

The National Center for Health Statistics reported that 33.8 percent of American adults above the age of 20 were obese in 2007-2008, while 68 percent were considered overweight or obese.

“Obesity remains high and is a significant public health problem in the U.S.,” said Cynthia Ogden, an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s health statistics unit.
