European Government Cancel Orders of Swine-Flu Vaccine

World News Update by EQUITIES Magazine

Low demand and the decision by European health officials that only one shot per person is needed have led to European governments canceling orders or trying to sell or give away extra doses of swine-flue vaccine.

This is bad news for vaccine makers, who expected to get a large sales bump from the H1N1 vaccine. In October, analysts estimated that GlaxoSmithKline Plc would earn an extra $1.62 billion from the vaccine while Novartis AG had forecast H1N1 sales of $400 to $700 million for the period.

Germany and France are just two of the countries that have announced the cancellation of vaccine orders.
