Tim Duncan scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Tony Parker added 21 points and handed out 6 assists as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Denver Nuggets 96-91 to take a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference playoff series.
While it was Duncan and Parker who led the Spurs scoring attack it was Michael Finley and Robert Horry who provided the damaging blows to the Nuggets.
Finley and Horry combined to hit five three-pointers in the third quarter and the Spurs used a late 8-0 spurt to break a 64-64 tie and Denver never recovered.
The Spurs built an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter but the Nuggets were able to get within five on several occasions, each time met by a Spurs bucket. Carmelo Anthony actually pulled the Nuggets to within three with seven seconds on the clock but Manu Ginobili hit a pair of free-throws to seal the game.
Anthony led the Nuggets with 28 points and 12 rebounds while Allen Iverson added 20 points on 7-20 shooting.
Both teams will meet in Denver on Monday for game four of their best of seven series.
