Jeron Lewis, a 6-foot-8, 260-pound forward for the University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team, died on Thursday night after suffering a head injury in his team’s game against Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Lewis, 21, slammed his head against the floor of the Owensboro Sportscenter after his feet got tangled. Trainers from both teams immediately raced to Lewis and moments later he began convulsing. After the convulsions subsided he was placed on a backboard and gurney and rushed to Owensboro Mercy Health System.
