Miss America, Lauren Nelson, Won’t Testify in Sex Sting Trials, Damages Prosecutions Cases

Recently crowned Miss America, Lauren Nelson, started her one-year reign assisting police in capturing potential internet sexual predators. Now the 20-year-old Lawton, Ok. native has expressed no interest in testifying against the eleven men she helped arrest.

Nelson, who had declared that she would fight to make the internet a safer place for children, assisted New York police in luring sexual predators while posing as a teenager looking to meet older men.

As part of the sting operation Nelson met men online and invited them to her home, all under the guise that she was a teenage girl. When the men arrived they wee quickly arrested.

A lawyer representing one of the men arrested has revealed that Nelson spoke with his client during the operation and thus made herself susceptible to cross-examination. Nelson has said she does not plan on testifying in the case. If Nelson opts out of testifying it could jeopardize not only the case involving the man she spoke with but the rest as well.

District Attorney Thomas Spota of Suffolk County, where the sting operation took place, has already told prosecutors to hold off on presenting any more cases to the grand jury until Nelson’s involvement can be determined.
