After selecting University of Southern Calironia’s wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett in the second round on Saturday the Carolina Panthers opted to release embattled receiver Keyshawn Johnson to make room for younger hands.
The 1996 number one overall draft pick of the New York Jets had 70 catches totaling 815 yards and four touchdowns last season. Over his 11-year career with four different teams Johnson has amassed 814 receptions for 10,571 yards and 64 touchdowns.
Johnson has expressed a desire to play at least another two seasons and eclipse the 1,000 receptions mark for his career. The 6’4 34-year-old would likely be an attractive pick-up for a team in need of a veteran receiver and could attract a club like the Atlanta Falcons who have expressed a strong desire to find somebody Michael Vick can rely on.
