‘American Idol’ Top Six Perform Bon Jovi Hits

The advice from Jon Bon Jovi was simple, make the songs your own. With that in mind each ‘American Idol’ contestant did their best to take that advice. While some did it better than others it will be interesting to see how it all turns out tomorrow when the votes from last week are combined with this week. Oh and then there’s that little thing about two ‘Idol’ hopefuls going home. So who stepped it up?

Phil Stacey may benefit the most from last week’s huge voter total as he certainly performed better last week than he did this week. Opting for the cowboy inspired anthem “Blaze of Glory” Stacey does little to sell the song as his own. While Randy and Paula both approve Simon wasn’t impressed.

Jordin Sparks rode into the night as a favorite to win the ‘Idol’ competition but based on her rendition of “Livin’ on a Prayer” she may have some convincing to do. It really was a bad performance and while nobody expects her to be voted off she proved that rock is definitely not in her repertoire. The best Paula could say was that she went for it. Whatever she went for lets hope she doesn’t go back for seconds.

Probably needing a near perfect performance to stay on ‘American Idol’ LaKisha Jones delivered with her take on “This Ain’t a Love Song.” After a few weeks of falling flat Jones delivered what was probably the best vocal of the night. It may be too little to late for the ‘Idol’ but if she goes home she went out with one of her most impressive performances.

Blake Lewis took the advice given at the beginning of the show to heart and truly made “You Give Love a Bad Name” his own. Mixing imitations, beat-box and scat the creative Lewis certainly left an impression. Blake was lauded for taking a leap of faith and it was that act that Simon felt would keep him in the competition.

Chris Richardson followed Lewis and sang ‘Wanted Dead or Alive” and after hearing Blake, this performance was forgettable.  Richardson did little to prove that he belonged among the top four and without stepping it up his chances of survival are slim.

Melinda Doolittle closed ‘American Idol’ out once again and once again she delivered a top notch performance. Singing “Have a Nice Day” she continued her march as the most consistent ‘Idol’ and most certainly earned a pass through tomorrow’s show.

With a huge voter turnout for last week’s ‘Idol Gives Back’ episode this week’s vote is a toss up. Will LaKisha earn enough votes this week to make up for a sub-par performance last week? Did Phil garner enough votes last week to save him this week? Chris is almost certainly gone while the battle over LaKisha and Phil will be fun to watch.
