Taliban militants attacked a number of buildings in the Afghan capital of Kabul, killing at least five people and injuring more than 70 others.
A number of government buildings, including the presidential palace, were targeted in the attack but President Hamid Karzai has said order has been restored and the hunt for the militants is now underway. At least seven of the militants were said to have been killed in the attack.
All seven of the dead militants are said to have been suicide bombers, each detonating explosives near specific buildings in the capital.
The president’s office released a statement shortly after the attack saying, “The Afghan president wants to assure the inhabitants of Kabul that the security situation is under control and order has once again been restored.”
